The Etruscans also used to fill rooms with fragrance using containers called thymiaterion (meaning censer or perfume burner). The Etruscan thymiaterias were generally made from bronze, but also from wood, etc...
They were represented in different tomb paintings such as the tomb of the Jugglers at Tarquinia: in these scenes the thymiaterion is kept in equilibrium on the head of the dancer, thus tying its use to dances and games.

Testimonies of this connection of the thymiaterion to the ritual sphere come from the scene where two slow archaic type thymiaterias are placed on sacrificial altars: in this case it concerns funeral rites. Examples exist that describe the thymiaterias "offered" to the divinity Thufltha. Literary sources also attest the practice of libanomantica (forecasting the future  thanks to the observation of incense smoke) by Etruscan priests.

The censer also belonged to a series of objects for everyday use: this is testified by the representation of the thymiaterion in scenes of a banquet (tomb Golini I of Orvieto) and from the fact that as a rule the censers were pertinent to female funeral outfits, thus tying women to the sphere of daily activities and banquets.
