THE GREAT BEAUTY

Paolo Sorrentino, 2014
Winner of the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film in 1994.

Jep Gambardella (Toni Servillo) is a writer who spends his life in Rome’s high society, yet suffers an aching sense of loneliness. Shocked by the death of Elisa, the only woman he has ever truly loved, he gets to know the stripper Ramona (Sabrina Ferilli), the prince of the church Cardinal Bellucci (Roberto Herlitzka) and the playwright Romano (Carlo Verdone). During a journey, a memory of the first time he met Elisa renews his sense of hope.

The fragrances inspired by THE GREAT BEAUTY

“For this creation, I thought of the structure of marble, which conceals an incredible sensuality and elegance, despite being so cold and smooth. When I saw the scene in the film with the statues, I imagined that I saw them move, as though they had come to life. It’s this ambiguity in this magnificent material that I love and that inspired me. So I worked to interpret this duality by adding to this grace and delight something boiling, almost erotic, to counterbalance marble’s cold, smooth appearance.”

Antoine Maisondieu

BIOGRAPHY
“Perfumery is a journey between art and reason”. Born in Grasse, Antoine comes from a family of artists and dealers in raw materials. His love for perfumery developed after he had studied law and art history, during an internship with the creator nose Jacques Chabert. “There is so much to love and to learn: creativity, poetry, elegance…”, he confides. To create his perfumes, he relies on both instinct and reason, a subtle, almost alchemical balance.
GIVAUDAN

“The scene in the film is simple and linear in its contrasts of light and shadow taken to the extremes. For me it was instinctive to create a note with the same structure of a handful of ingredients that appear, are sensed and have their own story of lights and shadows. These are woods, like vetiver and gaiac, that put a modern slant on the material and at the same time convey history to us. The velvety, seductive jasmine expresses Rome’s classical side, while bergamot and pink pepper are the light that illuminates and shows us the way.”
