A SPECIAL DAY

A SPECIAL DAY

Ettore Scola, 1977
Winner of the Golden Globe in 1978 as Best Foreign Film and of two David di Donatello Awards.

The story takes place all on one day in 1938, when Rome is preparing to host a visit from Hitler. Antonietta (Sophia Loren) is a housewife and mother of six children who finds herself spending time with her neighbour Gabriele (Marcello Mastroianni), when a certain feeling develops between them. At the end of the day, both of them have to go back to their usual lives: while she continues living her role as a wife and mother, he is arrested and sent into confinement.

The fragrances inspired by A SPECIAL DAY

“In this Roman atmosphere, it was a test to try and create a cologne rich in Italian citrus fruits and citron in the heart. Taking my inspiration from the interplay of opposites between Antonietta and Gabriele, who are attracted and repelled by one another at the same time, I created a contrasting note where the wild, mysterious part of Italian coffee blends with the luminosity of the citron. I appreciate the beauty of these two Italian ingredients, which match perfectly despite having opposite light and character. This is the duality of Italian chiaroscuro.”

Aurélien Guichard

BIOGRAPHY
Born in Grasse and raised in Paris, Aurélien trained at the Givaudan school of perfumery. After being employed by Firmenich, he joined Takasago in May 2018. He divides his time between Paris and Grasse, where he has planted the cabbage rose, discovering the secrets of its cultivation from the people who practise the art: grafters, pruners and harvesters. He continues the tradition of seven generations of perfumiers who preceded him.

“Against the background of the Eternal City in the Fascist era – represented by cypress, olibanum and silver birch bark – two solitary souls meet: the sensual Antonietta and the elegant Gabriele. Tuberose and leather express the airy spirit of the scene where Antonietta’s mynah bird escapes its cage, bringing them together. The result is a powerful fragrance that conjures up the period in history, as heavy as the solitude suffered by both characters, as heavy as their secrets.”

BIOGRAPHY
I have always been in harmony with the power of perfume. Nevertheless, it was not the raw materials of perfumery that won my heart, but the visual design of perfumery. I love perfume as an invention that caters to a need of beauty and pleasure: its bottles, colours, evocations and unique power to influence our emotions, committing to making its invisibility visible.
